Easter message from Goodluck Jonathan

This is the Easter message from the former president of Nigeria. On this Easter, I think about the unconditional love that Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, had for us to the extent that He gave His life for our salvation on Good Friday. My reflections also take my mind back to His resurrection by God on Easter. What a lesson for us of what sacrifice can achieve and the benefits it can bring to mankind generally and individually!  This Easter, I call on all, whether Christian or Muslim, to emulate Christ and sacrifice something for your nation, for your families and for yourselves.  Was it not John F Kennedy who famously said "ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” Let us not ask ourselves who will change our nations for the better.  Let us instead take a look in the mirror and ask how we can change our nations for the better. Indeed, as somebody once said, change begins with me.  It begins with you. Let this Easter be...

Boko Haram: “They Raped And Beat Us” – Abducted Chibok Girls.

In a recent article from Punch Newspapers, some of the girls and women that were abducted by Boko Haram spoke about their horrifying experience with these insurgents, one of the victims even said, a wife of one of the commanders was in full support of this terrible crime. How Sad… “He soon began to threaten me with a knife to have sex with him and when I refused, he brought out his gun, warning that he would kill me if I shouted. “Then he began to rape me every night … I had never had sex before; it was very painful and I cried bitterly because I was bleeding afterwards.” These were the words of a 15-year-old girl, who was abducted by Boko Haram and forcibly married to one of its commanders in a camp in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State. The girl, according to a report by Human Rights Watch, was abducted in 2013 but she escaped after four weeks in captivity. The teenager is one of the five girls that personally recounted their ordeals in the publication which was made public on Monday. S...

Gordon Brown wants UK troops in Nigeria

Brown former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown who is also the United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, has asked the British government to send troops to Nigeria to help rescue the abducted pupils of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State. He said, “These wholly innocent young girls—Lugwa Abuga, Rhoda John, Comfort Amos, Maryamu Yakubu and 200 others—are now incarcerated in the forest areas of Borno State. Some have perhaps been dispersed across three other countries: Niger, Cameroon and Chad. Their physical and mental health is a worry for everyone. “If the girls have been dispersed to a number of different places, a rescue mission for one group would immediately put the other groups at risk. That is the dilemma that confronts the Nigerian Government, as understand it. “That is why they need additional support to monitor what is happening and, if it is necessary to intervene, (we should send) the troops, securi...
